Modified Rational Formula

The modified rational formula used to estimate peak flow rate is obtained by substituting equations 2:1.3.15, 2:1.3.16, and 2:1.3.17 into equation 2:1.3.1

where qpeakq_{peak} is the peak runoff rate (m3s1m^3 s^{-1}), αtc\alpha_{tc} is the fraction of daily rainfall that occurs during the time of concentration, QsurfQ_{surf} is the surface runoff (mm H2_2O), AreaArea is the subbasin area (km2^2), tconct_{conc} is the time of concentration for the subbasin (hr) and 3.6 is a unit conversion factor.
