# Evaporation

The volume of water lost to evaporation on a given day is calculated:

$$V\_{evap}=5\*(1-\frac{LAI}{LAI\_{evap}})*E\_o*SA$$ if $$LAI\<LAI\_{evap}$$ 8:1.3.5

$$V\_{evap}=0$$ if $$LAI \ge LAI\_{evap}$$ 8:1.3.6

where $$V\_{evap}$$ is the volume of water removed from the water body by evaporation during the day (m$$^3$$ H$$*2$$O), $$LAI$$ is the leaf area index of the plants growing in the pothole, $$LAI*{evap}$$ is the leaf area index at which no evaporation occurs from the water surface, $$E\_o$$ is the potential evapotranspiration for a given day (mm H$$\_2$$O), and $$SA$$ is the surface area of the water body (ha).
